hate to ask another question, but how am i supposed to mount the sputnik sattelite to the sputnik rocket? i've looked up and down the manual but can't find anything on the matter...

There isn't part or function that facilitates that, what I like to do is take structural pieces and make a small tower, place the Sputnik on top of those parts & then cover it with a fairing.

What's next? will they drop it while they're loading it onto the rocket ;)

Darnit! well maybe it will get rolled back because they forgot the parachutes.

It's good to finally see Starliner (hopefully) launching to the ISS :)

In the decades it would take for supplies to reach the system, I’m sure it would be possible to build a decent self-sufficient colony. Otherwise, dad is gonna be gone for milk for a very, very long time

One second kiddo I need to go get something from Debdeb, I will be back soon :)

I doubt there will be interstellar supply lines and your just meant to brute-force a colony with at most a few missions.

So to clarify you are welcome to make a part that fits with SOCK & release it however you please, so long as that part doesn't make use of models or textures from SOCK itself. So if you wanted to make your own Buran aft section that works with SOCK that is no problem.

However, you may want to hold fire:

There is still a lot to be done on Buran but I'm hoping to get back to it soon. The entire rest of the orbiter needs new textures to fit with the fully-tiled Buran look, and I need to make a new set of front landing gear & a variant of the cargo bay to fit it (Buran's landing gear are on the cargo bay rather than the nose).

I'm wondering if people's preference would be for me to release the parts as they are finished (e.g. release just the aft section) or to wait until the whole craft is done.

I've said this before, and alot of people have agreed, but i speculate DebDeb may be binary.

It has TWO debs, possibly meaning two stars.

Kerbals may also have dominant hands, meaning we could get a righty kerbal, and a lefty kerbal. But lefty kerbals would be rarer.

    Lefties FTW!

It's such a crazy concept it may just be true!

So I went back and found it.  Very first feature video that launched alongside the trailer.  At about 1:35.  It looks like a white dwarf with like maybe a g class yellow dwarf?

Picture of binary star in feature video

    Oh my :O

The bigger star could be Debdeb due to it's red color but I didn't see anything that looked like that in this shot of that system:

Also my theory is going off the second shot you showed where the big star is red.

By getting the giggles out of our systems now, of course…

Then get it out of our systems we will, so without further ado...

URANUS ORBITER?!?!?! HAHAHAHA so funny & KINDA SUS DON'T YOU THINK?!?!?!

Jokes aside, I'm already getting Cassini flashbacks & it was only just recommended lmao.

    Spoiler

Here have a nice Cassini image from one of the final orbits, I wonder what a photo like this would be like at Uranus:

Also PLEASE tell me this thing will get a better name if it comes to be, naming a rocket "Space Launch System" is pretty bad but the current name would just be plain disgusting :P

Sorry for triple posting, but there's another spacex related part of the decadal survey: the Uranus orbiter and probe, probably the most important and likely to be followed suggestion of the study, is baselined on Falcon Heavy

Assuming the design is accepted and FH selected, I doubt NASA will accept switching vehicle with Starship for one of the most important flagship mission ever; this means that by 2032 it could be one of the last FH launches before retirement

A surprise to be sure but a (very) welcome one :)

  9. Main takeaways:

-Highest priority is Mars Sample Return

-Highest priority for next flagship mission should be A Uranus Orbiter of some kind

-Second highest priority for next flagship mission is an "Enceladus OrbiLander" (multi purpose Orbiter/Lander spacecraft).

-3 Mid sized New Frontiers missions

-5 new Discovery mission with 800 million dollar cost cap

It's important to note that a lot of this stuff will be either scaled back, cancelled, or just straight up get abandoned.

But Uranus Orbiter which was given highest priority might just become a reality, with the "Neptune Odyssey " proposal being not totally forgotten & Trident almost getting selected it seems we might finally be on the brink of another Ice Giant mission.

  10. Hey there and sorry to bother whoever finds this but I'm having an issue with the ground anchor part in KSP 1.12.3.

When I place it the part floats in mid-air (an issue with all ground parts) and when I bump a Kerbal into it to get the physics to apply it continues to not function.

Here's a video so you can see what I mean:

Also I think I have the same question somewhere around here but I can't find the original thread.

  11. This ship seems to have some sort of heat shield on the front, I don't really see any reason it would be there other than for debris protection:

    wPMZa6P.png

Also I'm guessing the engine on a Dedalus that has to face the debris would have it's sides coated in armor & the inside is probably already beefed up just so it can run.
