I'm pretty sure every single person on this forum who has ever made an SSTO would call shenanigans on someone who made an "SSTO" that dropped its fuel tanks as they emptied.
-
I thought up another request. I've always wanted to compare my own ascent profile to GravityTurns and find out just where I'm having the most problems. It'd be cool if I could leave the GT window up while doing my own ascent, and have it continue to track all the statistics (Gravity Losses, Drag Losses, and Vector Losses).

Do we really need game modes?
Superfluous J replied to Vanamonde's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
For Strategia or for stock? I just checked the most recent (well one build back as I'm on limited data right now) stock strategies.cfg and I see only 4 EFFECTs, CurrencyConverter (convert one currency into another directly), CurrencyExchanger (lower one's return to raise another's), CurrencyOperation (modify a currency return), and ValueModifier (change what something is worth). I don't see how you could use any of those to change R&D to accept cash instead of science. Though I see there's a test file there as well, with 3 other EFFECTS. ModifyFunds, ModifyScience, and ModifyReputation. Though I don't see quite what they do. -
What @Aperture Science said. To be specific, if you get it into orbit, and then teleport it back to the launchpad and refilled it with fuel and only fuel, you could launch it back into orbit. Over and over. Forever. Yes Yes. I don't know enough about those specific JATOs, except I'm guessing they didn't go to orbit But if you had a ship that used jets to assist in takeoff, and you carried them into orbit along with all other non-fuel hardware, then yes it's an SSTO. (Note you could have any number of KSP-defined (hit the spacebar) "stages" so long as none of those caused a piece of the ship to fall off)

Dance music. No. I'm serious. I've got hundreds of those bass-heavy, repetitive, mindlessly-lyriced (if lyriced at all) tunes on my computer and I do all my best writing, editing, and coding while they're playing.

Do we really need game modes?

Regardless of scientist on board or not, you can transfer to the new Science Box without the warning. Regardless of if you use a scientist to or not, you get the 'Only a scientist can reset this!' warning when you manually remove science. KSP may be inconsistent, but at least it is consistently inconsistent You do though need a scientist to reset the containers, on EVA, and standing less than 0.00001 millimeters (or so it seems) away. If this is not true, please describe to me in detail how to do it because I thought I tried everything. -
Music: http://freemusicarchive.org Sound Effects: https://www.freesound.org/ Always check licenses, "Free" means different things to different people and in different situations.

Do we really need game modes?
Superfluous J replied to Vanamonde's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I agree with this, though the Jr and Goo still require an EVA to reset, and the whole thing is still too clicky for me. I just this past weekend used a biome-capable probe to scout out Minmus and plop down waypoints, and then landed in each with a science lander. Before, I'd have referred to KerbalMaps or something else. It's very nice to have that information in-game. -
I've stayed out of this because I've never played KSP on a console, but I have been a console-exclusive gamer and I can tell you why I did that, if it'll help. I'll even not tell you why I went away from it and back to PC gaming exclusively. I started console gaming exclusively for the following reasons: My TV is bigger than my computer monitor. I have a comfortable couch. Every game on a console works the same way for everybody. Nobody has a better processor, or video card, or anything. Granted there are now differences in hard drive size, and there's the ever-present network connection, but you get what I mean. It's easier to pick up a controller and hit a button on a remote and start playing, than it is to make sure all my work is saved and in a state I can pick it back up, then closed down, then IM software closed down, then close those 8 windows that somehow always get opened even though I only used them once and probably should have closed them right away, then notice I really wanted to write that email, then find out my spell checker has an update, and then forget what game I wanted to play. None of these are KSP specific, but they could be benefits to playing KSP on a console that don't exist on the PC, at least not without some serious work to set them up.

Before I played KSP, in my stories when needing to talk about orbits around stars other than the Sun I used "periastron" and "apastron." I don't know where I got them or if I made them up. Were I to write them today I'd probably use -apsis. And I'd probably not even notice I was doing so (Oh and I take credit for perimint and apomint for Minmus)
-
I personally prefer OBS, and use it exclusively after years of using FRAPS, which I switched to after years of using Bandicam - which for me had lots of trouble chewing on Kerbal Space Program. There's a learning curve. You have to figure out what a "source" and a "scene" is and how one contains the other and why, but once you got that down it's as simple as hitting your hotkey and playing. For editing, I use VideoPad. It's simple to use - at least relative to the "professional" and/or free options - and surprisingly powerful for $70. When I went to the page to check the price, I see also that it's currently on sale for $50. I actually own the more expensive version because I wanted more than two audio tracks, but I almost never use more than 2 and have never used an external plugin.

[1.8.x] AutomatedScienceSampler - V1.3.5 - 18.10.2019
Superfluous J replied to SpaceTiger's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Just installed this on my 1.2 game, where I had already scienced up Kerbin and Mun and was heading to Minmus. It was like taking a breath of fresh air after wandering in a dank, dark dungeon. Thank you! -
That's totally fair. I would like to be able to do it very much.

Do we really need game modes?
Superfluous J replied to Vanamonde's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I don't think I've seen a proposal in this thread to add *new* things, just unlock all the current ones so you can toggle them on or off. Are you suggesting a toggle to use money instead of science to unlock tech tree nodes? Or maybe even rep? If so, I wholeheartedly support the idea. -

Mun orbit apogee and perigee

I don't think it's anything other than "looks funny" coupled with "duna -> dune -> doon" Oh and... -
Mun orbit apogee and perigee
Superfluous J replied to Ty Tan Tu's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Apimint/Perimint? Ancient Kerbals thought Minmus was made of mint, but modern ones realized it wasn't. Probably. But they better check just to make sure. -
Mun orbit apogee and perigee
Superfluous J replied to Ty Tan Tu's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
If you do this, in my head Mun's Latin name is "Loona." Someone on these forums suggested it years ago and I think it's PERFECT. So it'd be Periloon and Apiloon. The other 13 are up to you -
Does your Steam apps list look like this for KSP? Kerbal Space Program [prerelease] Or does it say ANYTHING else? If it says exactly the above, then you should have the prerelease installed. I can't even think of what to do otherwise. Uninstall and reinstall seems drastic but hey. Also verify game cache and maybe check Library -> Downloads to see if the download is queued for the future. If so, there's a "download now" button on the right side.

Mun orbit apogee and perigee
Superfluous J replied to Ty Tan Tu's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Quick note on terms: "Apogee" and "Perigee" are relative to Earth, which doesn't exist in Kerbal Space Program. We use Apoapsis and Periapsis, which are the general terms. You are experiencing a bug. With no thrust active, your orbit should not move at all. Practically speaking, it could waver a few meters back and forth but nowhere near a Km or more. This bug may not be worth reporting, unless you can recreate it not only in a stock game, but in the new 1.2 prerelease. They've done a lot of work on orbits over the past few versions and any bugs you're seeing in 1.1.3 could easily have been fixed already. -
Why does this rocket keep wobbling?

In 1.x you can strut it. In 1.2 pre you can autostrut it -
Why does this rocket keep wobbling?
Superfluous J replied to HoloYolo's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I personally just don't use those adapters, except when they're at the bottom of the stack. Even then it's pretty rare, TBH. I do this instead: (parts and layout chosen for visibility, not function) -
Suggestion: Add Navball markers to the smiley list.
Superfluous J replied to Alshain's topic in Kerbal Network
While we're talking smiley faces, could we make the default Kerbal smiley face actually smile? You can use the one already present for :| by removing 2 pixels.
