[1.4.X] Taerobee - Stockalike X-1 and More [27/01/2017]

Here's an interesting article on the full four-stage version, speculating that in fact the figures of the A-9/A-10/A-11/A-12 system were back-computed from Von Braun's quite-fully-worked-out 1948 ferry rocket study (which was made prettier and used in the famous 1952 Collier's magazine series Man Will Conquer Space Soon).

Really only the A-10 (and the A-9 / A-4b boost-glide vehicle) were fully worked out, of the whole series; even if there were notional A-11 and A-12 the figures were very scanty.

May i suggest the Stiletto (X-3) when you get around to working on this mod???

Very pretty plane! But. not very easy to adapt to KSP.

I have a clear view of what comes next now. Short-term, WAC parts (need to add fins and adapters).

Any info on 1.0.5 update? I mostly interested in X-1 - that was my favourite craft for breaking speed\altitude records. With some creative thinking (using RATO with landing gear for takeoff, jettisoning it as you activated the main engine, and using ballistic chutes for landing) you could even try for suborbital hop.

They only need a config update. Either way, a stockalike Clipper would be a nice addition to this mod, though taken into consideration era-wise, it doesn't seem likely that there will ever be one in this mod. I recall seeing a stockalike clipper a while back. It looked nice too, but I can't seem to find the thread.

Hey @Beale I was trying out the WAC parts and I know it hasn't been officially released/finished, but how did you intend the WAC to attach to the Bumper? Is there supposed to be a stack node added or is there a separate nose cone not included? Thanks!

Still missing parts I'm afraid, there is an adapter and decoupler.

Sorry Taerobee has been put-to-side lately, I'll get the WAC stuff polished and out-the-door soon :)

There are a lot of wobble issues with parts this small in a stack.

What options do you have? Perhaps increase the diameter of the colliders slightly, without increasing the size of the mesh. That may improve stability.

That makes sense, but as is often the case - the most intuitive solution is not the correct one.
The connection strength is on mass (There are no intra-part collisions that wide colliders would help with) as far as I know, with the WAC's low mass - there is not much to be done. :(

Well, I  could define the node size as higher for more strength, but then huge green baubles would get in the way in the VAB.

Perhaps for the sake of simplicity, leave the Bumper as a simple 0.625m sounding rocket, no WAC, no new diameter parts.
Ehhh.... Things are tricky.
