I've dabbled in it before, and it seems really cool and I've been looking for a reason to learn more about it.

So, not really but I could learn it pretty quickly.

Well we need a programmer pretty badly for our larger launches.

You still need a mic and Skype/Discord.

So, I just opened about 50 tabs because I couldn't get CKAN to work and downloaded all the mods to a new KSP folder.

What do you need in kOS?

Just make sure you have all the mods needed for RSS RO and the ones listed on the OP.

Along with SSTU (just started using it).

So just write programs to get the different rockets into various orbits to start out with?

Also, what's my title?

And where do I get the lifters that have been designed by other people?

Amongst other things, yes.

You would be Guidance, Navigation and Controls Engineers (or GNC).

We have a google drive, and we'll get you access to that once your in the Skype group as Skype is our main means of communication.

It's the same for everyone unless stated otherwise. Just follow the mods on this thread OP and add SSTU and kOS for yourself. That's all currently.

I've got all of those but I can't open any of the lifters I found. Well, I can't open the 10 ton lifter and can't find any others.

Well we'll give you a link to the shared google drive in the Skype chat. Just PM me your Skype user details.

To others reading the thread, we are still in need of more Flight Controllers! The start of school has knocked several out for the count, so if you are capable of joining, let us know! All you need is math skills, a mic, Skype and or a Discord account! That's all that's you need to join RSP.

In other news we will be also be adding Organization and Procedures Officer (O&P) to our roles list as we could always use someone to coordinate activities within the Mission Control chat during launch and or other mission activities. So all previously active RSP members can tell me if you want to step up to this role. Due to our limited number of controllers we may allow you to double up roles.

Roles needing to be taken or needing back-up members:

  • Booster (launch only); manages the booster prior to, during and shortly after launch.
  • GNC, Guidance, Navigation and Control Officer; creates and executes programs set in the kOS computers onboard the vessel to perform activities and maneuvers as required by the crew or flight.
  • Integrated Communications Officer (INCO) *new* ; manages and maintains all communication based aspects for the Mission Control team.
  • EECOM, Electrical, Environmental and Consumables Manager (manned missions only); sets the amount of resources needed for the crew based on the mission as well as monitors and limits resource consumption.
  • FAO, Flight Activities Officer (now open to both manned and unmanned flights); plans and organizes all activities within the mission based on mission goals.
  • FDO, Flight Dynamics Officer; manages all burns and maneuvers required for the spacecraft to perform.
  • Retro; manages all burns and maneuvers related in returning the spacecraft to Earth.
  • Network; Manages ground communication between Mission Control and the spacecraft. Also lets Mission Control know when to expect LOS (Loss of Signal) and AOS (Acquisition of Signal) times. Important so that other roles can plan around these times where Flight is out of communication with the spacecraft.

Lastly, the launch on Saturday has been changed to another sounding rocket launch, specifically the launch of the Asimov rocket. The Asimov, in name after the science fiction author Isaac Asimov, will be an upgraded booster to the Sagan. For one, it will go further and higher than the Sagan as well as carrying science onboard. So make sure to be there for this epic launch.

The also was a quote of what I'd said earlier not noticing that you'd also answered that question.

I'm assuming the email and/or phone is the relevant information for Skype?

I know that this is not on the OP, but I would love to have some new people join me in the public affairs department of things.  If you have nothing listed but a good enough mic and the ability to go on at least Discord, I would love to have you on the team.  Skype is preferable for text conversation, and time would also be a nice thing for you to have.  If you are qualified for other positions, I will point you there first though that will not change your status with public affairs unless you take a mission control job.

Yours Truly,

CliftonM; Public Affairs Officer, RSP

Welcome to the Real Space Program! A mission series dedicated to replicating real life launches with a real ground control team. Missions will be done based on who is available to man the launch control team. Missions will be replicated using a verity of mods for the launches. Payloads will be provided by the community.

The Real Space Program is an evolution of the previous Apollo Mission Recreation Program which failed due too many complications. The Real Space Program however is going to work on more easily completed tasks over the span of a couple hours (or less) rather than multiday missions. We will be primarily launching unmanned payloads, however when a crew is available and a mission requires one, then we may perform them as they come.

NEEDING NEW MISSION CONTROL MEMBERS!!!

Requirements to Join listed in the spoiler below!

  Hide contents

In order to join, us we want you to have a few requirements so you can effective assist us. Real Space Program is entirely a group effort, therefore we need every member to contribute as best as possible. So here is a list of what you will need in order to join (role specifics listed below)(bullets in bold are required):

Non-Mission Control Requirements:

  • Skype (primarily text portion, mobile app acceptable)
  • College Level Mathematics
  • Able to run a KSP save with Realism Overhaul (RO), Real Solar System (RSS) and all of their dependencies (as well as all mods listed above). Specifically able to make Launch Vehicles.
  • Knowledge for planning and coordinating
  • Knowledge to code within kOS.

Mission Control Role Requirements:

  • Decent Microphone
  • Good internets speeds
  • Discord Chat Software (for Mission Control Discussions- during launch)
  • Able to attend launches (semi-regularly. We can make exceptions, but only if mentioned before a launch!)

Mission Control Role Specific Requirements:

  • Port Forwarding (Astronaut/Booster)
  • Additional Programs (Various Roles)

If want to join the ground control team, please let me (ZooNamedGames) know in a private message or post on this thread so you can join! Please provide your Steam/Skype name in a Private Forum message upon requesting to join! I will private message you if you are accepted, and if you are, you will be accepted into a Steam/Skype group for the control team. Scheduling Document is available here.

If you would like to suggest a payload for us to launch, then please fill out this form ( https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1Ia2UgK7jqXPt0bT2_7xUsMm2HDljRQSl6GB6lFPkACI/viewform?usp=send_form ) so we can review your payload. Once we accept it, we will build a launch vehicle for you and contact you about a launch date. Please note- due to the fact we are still early in development, all provided payloads are delayed until we can get into a pattern of routine launches.

All missions will be done on a single save so that all crafts are in the same universe.

If you would like to see this program expand into a historical career mode, then please vote HERE. If we reach 1000 votes of YES, then I will begin work on creating one. This would involve realistic launches starting with sounding rockets and then evolving into satellites and eventually going to the moon using a real crew.
