What funny/interesting thing happened in your life today?

I made chicken lo mein for Thanksgiving dinner instead of the more traditional Western turkey dinner style typical of American (and furthermore moreover Anglospheric) Thanksgiving Dinners. The frozen dinner was deployed from the cryogenic storage unit (freezer) and thoroughly enjoyed by mission control (me). It came preloaded with MSG boosters and flavor payloads. A stack of dishes from earlier missions still in orbit around the sink that night too. The mission from pan to plate, Operation Lo Mein Lift-Off, was executed with nominal efficiency and minimal cleanup. The P.F. Chang's Frozen Chicken Lo Mein, unlike the lo mein dish itself, was still by all means as American as the typical traditional Western turkey dinner style, though... so — ironically enough — my Thanksgiving dinner consisting of food whose origins originated from a completely different part of Planet Earth than the holiday Thanksgiving itself did still somehow managed to be peak American. Even if that means it was more like peak Asian-American. Eating an immigrant-inspired dish filtered through an Americanized lens sure sounds like the spirit of modern America to me. What I learned on the Thanksgiving Day that this was written, after gaining proof of it from personal experience, is that Thanksgiving dinner does not need to be turkey dinner for it to still be valid.

So, therefore, all in all, Thanksgiving 2024 was a tasty resounding success. Much like in Kerbal Space Program, the mission didn’t follow the traditional flight plan but still achieved its objective: survival, satisfaction, and a dash of creativity.

Im playing Elite Dangerous (i dont have an antixeno combat vessel so i cant fight the thargoids invading sol) and am doing xenobiology. Im on a planet trying to scan a plant and my ships nose is pointing at the ground in direct contact so i dont drift while trying to scan. A system authority vessel (think police) comes up on me, scans me and says nothing unusual here commander, carry on. And im left laughing at the idea that hes seen this enough he doesnt care my ship is essentially huffing dirt.

so, im getting on my computer so i can play elite dangerous and i go to do what ive done countless times before in the past: turn my monitor on. I fail spectacularly and nearly give myself a heart attack thinking my monitor is broken. Turns out I am a dope and moving my joystick <x56 rhino hotas> just a few inches off of where i normally keep it sitting completely blew out my muscle memory. I was hitting a button that only works when the monitor is on, its one of the buttons that either selects an option or scrolls between settings <not sure as ive not turned my light on beyond trying to figure out where the power button is, by then my hand wasnt on the suspect button lol> and hit my flashlight to find that stupid power button. man.... laugh it up folks, its worth a giggle!

@Batavia im a cellist myself, former clarinetist, and though its been a few decades since i played my clarinet and about 15 since my cello, i remember that feeling fondly. especially when i worked so hard for a UIL competition back in middle school and played my cello well enough to medal. I didnt make the top ranks or anything, but, well enough to get a medal. UIL is funny like that where Im from. and this predates the 2000's btw. Yup. Im old.

I discovered the Atomic Rockets website. It's a gold mine! Everything you could ever want to know about interstellar travel, interplanetary travel, space warfare, space logistics, all in an easy-to-read and understand format! There's even a few game recommendations, of which Kerbal Space Program has the longest entry. ;)

so putting today's lego star wars advent calander model together imposed a challenge. a cat was on my desk. i knew if i dumped the parts out of the bag, the cat would scatter them to the four winds. so i did the only thing i could do, i assembled the ship in the bag without opening it. looks like yoda's ship from the clone wars. now i have to stand up all my minifigs that the cat fell with its tail. no jedi can resist the power of the cat side.
