Magnetometer Mass - What is is made from and why is it Osmium?

The new Magnetometer part is listed as 0.5t, being the heaviest science part in the game (including DLCs) apart from the large Science Laboratory part yet it is very small, similar in size to the Barometer and Gravioli Detector which only weigh 5kg (0.005t) albeit they do not extend out.

So... is this just a typo, an oversight or maybe the Magnetometer is made of some crazy high density material like Osmium (or Kerbal equivalent). What are your thoughts?

Wait wait wait... before we fix this - can this be used as ballast to make submarines sink?  Gotta be the densest part in KSP

Better yet.... changing mass position to alter rotation speed?      That's a lot of mass to be shifting around that easily... Assuming the CoM moves with the arm.

hi,
if I've got it well, in order to fix the magnetometer mass, I have to create a "magnetometer_fix.cfg" text file this way:

@PART[Magnetometer]

{@mass = 0.05
PhysicsSignificance = 1
}

and then just copy the file in the main directory so the Module Manager Mod will load it at every start.
is this correct?

It most certainly does. The few satellites that used this tool can attest to that.
