So, we had another kind of technical problem. Whole different one this time, to keep things exciting!

Complain about those that put in no effort and throw you away. Don't complain about those who at least try, whether they be experts or novices.

Exactly my sentiment.  They appear to have made a copy & paste error that with the caution that comes from experience would have been detected earlier.  I'm sure they'll be more careful in future.

I think that raises more questions than it answers. Given the current febrile situation re the forum, can you expand on that a bit?

I want to take a stab at answering this question, if you don't mind. As I shared in the January 2025 TOTM, I have a long history of being a volunteer with the community as a beta tester for both games, a forum moderator, a moderator on the KSP Steam discussions area (the original KSP, that is), and even on KerbalX as a moderator. I love this community and want to do whatever I can to keep it going. When KSP2 was released into early access, many of our community felt KSP (the original)'s days were done. It needed to be sent to the back, and KSP2 needed to be highlighted.

The older header I replaced highlighted Kerbal Space Program 2 only. In hindsight, I should have made a copy of it. However, with the development of KSP2 probably permanently stalled, I decided to replace that banner with something that would highlight both games and show that we are still one community - the Kerbal Space Program community. It doesn't matter if folks play the original, now called KSP1 or KSP2; this forum is the home for all who play either game.

Is it known if there any significance to the banner being added?

Not really. It is more of a cosmetic thing, and it also reflects on forum health. I am a volunteer, as is the rest of the moderation team. It is just that I am more accustomed to using the layout editor (and have a little less fear than Bob Kerman) and am willing to make some changes to keep the forum looking tidy and interesting to the community.

In a previous job, I was trained in brand marketing and identity - so I am putting that training to good use with this community. :)

I hope this answers your questions and concerns.

Ok, just a bit of a "huh... what?" moment, seeing the change, especially given it's timing with regard to recent(ish) events.

Understood that this is just tying together KSP1 and KSP2 under "KSP"... the game we know and love.

Concerns answered.

It was on my to-do list about the same time we began experiencing all the random forum crashes and absences. Even if we were in limbo without love from the previous owner of Private Division, who shall not be named, I planned to do it anyway.    It should always remain, even if we start seeing the development of Kerbal Space Program 3, one community!

...the previous owner of Private Division...

Can you help clarify the sale of KSP a few months ago? Was "Private Division" sold to the new owner with KSP going along for the ride, or was Private Division's intellectual property sold and now owned by Haveli or a new corporate spinoff? Who owns this forum?

And on a related note, most/all people listed on the staff page were laid off more than 6 months ago. This page should be updated. https://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/staff/

When Private Division was sold, the buyer purchased all its intellectual properties at that time, with the exception of a handful of mobile games that TakeTwo had already removed from the Company before the shutdown and later sale. Now that's from internet sources, not from any inside information any of us on the moderation team have been given. We have been kept in the dark as much as anyone else has. The forum is now the property of the Private Division purchasers, hosting this forum, the Kerbal Space Program website, and the store, and they own all the intellectual property relating to KSP and KSP2. That's all any of us know at the moment.

Yes, we have been discussing that for over six months. However, until we have official direction from a company liaison, we need not poke around on those pages too much, even if that information is severely outdated. We can do some things locally (on the forum without much thought) to keep our side of things updated with little worries. Before the Great Period of Forum Instability, I was reorganizing the landing page organization for the forum, creating areas of interest to keep things fresh and interesting.   Today, I changed the banner from highlighting KSP2 to being more inviting to players of both games.

But when it comes to anything else, such as who does what (and it lists job descriptions), I am hesitant to do that since those were paid employees of a company responsible at one point. We will do so once we are given official directions and know how to proceed.

I see the footer has changed as well.

Ironically it seems like this forum is overall in much better shape than any other site under the wings of PD :')

Yep, with the permissions I have, that's beyond my ability. I cannot do anything with the footer. That's someone on the new owner's end. :)

I would suggest getting rid of the banner completely, it adds no value. People visiting this forum know why they are here, we don't need to be reminded or sold the idea of playing KSP.

EDIT: I would add that user experience (and interface by proxy) is incredibly important with a forum and getting users to the list of threads they want to see in the quickest and least interactions possible promotes engagement by way of posting. Its fairly annoying to have to scroll down a relatively long way every time you load the forum home page. In addition, and in a similar vain, grouping the three KSP1 mod sub-forums under another forum header seems like it could be reverted back to the way it was originally, and how the KSP2 mod forums are laid out. I get why it was done, KSP2 marketing and the push to get people to engage with KSP2, blah blah blah. I get it. That push is no longer present and it makes sense to revert the change and list them separately again. Its annoying enough that I just changed my bookmark to take me straight to the KSP1 Mod Releases sub-forum which has had the result of my engaging with less of the wider forum.

Good UX drives engagement.

I would ordinarily be in agreement, but it's just a harmless bit of fun, and you can always poke it with your adblocker. I cut all the annoying bits out of every website I use--It's a very peaceful browsing experience.

EDIT: The element zapper for uBlock Origin didn't seem to persist on refresh, so here's the custom filter:

I can help on that, the file is still in the storage:

And since we are here, I don't have records from the previous ones, but fortunately Internet Archive does:

I had completely forgot about the banners previous to the KSP2 one! :)

Imagine the trolling potential of putting up one of those old banners...

I mean, Intercept Games site was still up not that long ago with a big red "WE'RE HIRING!"

Guess it all disappeared once T2 got rid of the label, bet it was sitting on their servers.
