  1. They're not adding either mode, actually. it looks like the 2 modes will be called "sandbox" and "exploration" "Exploration" will be the progression mode.
  2. I think that the fact that collecting science isn't the end goal of player progression is enough of a major change. Sure it'd be nice if it was totally different from KSP1, but if it's simply easier than KSP1 to perform (but not achieve of course) and is there just to unlock the new gameplay? Sure let's see what that's all about.
  3. If colonies are at the end of the tech tree, maybe that'll finally disconnect the concept of "complete the tech tree" from the concept of "complete the game" and I'll finally use some of the stuff in the final tech nodes.
  4. If you're not overworked all year, plenty of people have no problem working through Christmas. I for one am taking exactly 0 days off between now and next year. That includes holidays I'll be working.
  5. It's speculative that newly released software might need to be fixed?
  6. (not mine) Everybody is eternally just minutes from death, but we reset the timer each time we breathe in.
  7. Perfectly? Not really. You can get close, but even if the orbit says it's exactly 6 hours it'll always be off by a bit. But if you're okay with that, then yes you can do it: Put your satellite into an orbit that has an Ap at geostationary, and a Pe somewhere under geostationary. At Ap, look at the planet and figure out where the point you want to orbit over is. If it's right under you, great! Raise your Pe with a prograde burn and you're done! If it's not, note where it is and guesstimate how long it will take to get under this Ap. Kerbin rotates in 6 hours so it's pretty easy to get within 15 minutes or so just eyeballing it. Do a burn to change your current orbit's time to that time (or to 1/2 that time, or 1/3 or 1/4 etc). Orbit once (or 2 times, 3 times etc if you had to set your orbit to 1/2 that time or 1/3 or whatever). Burn into geostationary and be close enough to where you need to be for a video game.
  8. Not that an anecdote is the same as data, but as the one user I know of the most I launched KSP2 from Steam *once*. By accident. And then I closed the loader immediately to run the game from the command line. Because the loader is stupid and running it makes me feel dirty. Now whenever I load the game it's from CKAN, and I will never show up on the Steam counts. ...unless they swap the loader for CKAN. Then maybe I'll run it from Steam. All you need to make parts is knowledge of how to use whatever 3d software people use to make parts. I don't remember the name because I tried it once and I don't usually hate things but I actually hated it.
  9. Why not both? Controls->VAB, have everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) listed, and also the "default" button could have a "KSP1 Defaults" and "KSP2 Defaults"
  10. TWR at launch is big. Too low, and you're burning fuel just hovering near the launchpad. Too high, and your rockets will flip out of control or experience excessive wobbliness. I find 1.2-1.6 to be a good range of starting TWR to both reach orbit with 3-4k m/s of dV and also actually reach orbit
  11. Same way you get to Carnegie Hall, kid. Practice. Look at where your ship is in orbit, make it be a bit behind or over KSC. Launch your ship into orbit. Note how far away your mothership is. Revert and relaunch with the mothership further back or forward depending on if you overshot. Repeat. A lot. Note: You're not avoiding going into orbit. you're just going into orbit at the exact right time and place.
  12. I got Desynced on Steam (20% sale on a game I already want? Okay!) and played it a bit. I'm not going to dive into it until I get through the last 2 games I mentioned, but i played it for an hour and as a fan of factory games AND "write little scripts" games I think it's just my thing.
  13. Just come up with a new backronym for CBT that fits the current terrain system with some tweaks and say you did it.
  14. Back in KSP1, if you knew EXACTLY what you were doing you could do it by editing the craft file. If you didn't know EXACTLY what you were doing the results were always funny but never what you wanted.
  15. Well take your example. You place an engine under a fuel tank and then switch to decouplers, and the decoupler and stack separator that will fit nicely on that engine are highlit. What if that engine was placed 45 parts, 3 saves, and an exit/reload of the game ago? Are you still expecting the game to highlight those 2 decouplers? I wouldn't. But hovering over decouplers, you could then grab the one that makes the engine glow a bit (or whatever).
  16. I like the idea, especially if it concentrates on the most recently placed parts. I wonder if a reverse idea would work: As you're hovering over parts in the list, little areas on the rocket that are the same diameter as it would highlight. I agree that it should be restricted to size and not context. Making the process too "smart" could easily become more confusing than not to a new player.
  17. Naw. In the 80s some rando couldn't build a game-of-the-year from scratch in their spare time. I mean, they could but they'd need Atari or Nintendo to burn it onto a cartridge. We're in a Golden Age of gaming and it has nothing, and I mean NOTHING to do with AAA studios (present host of this forum included).
  18. True, but you also have to do the plan at the same time you'll be doing the transfer (or at least aim for the spot in the target planet's orbit that you'll be hitting) in that case. And unless you're going from Moho to Eeloo, at least one of the orbits (target or source) will be pretty circular... at least in the Kerbolar system. And for most uses, Kerbin is always going to be either the source or target planet. Also, it will affect both tests the same so if all you care about is the difference between them, either they'll be similar, or the one that would have obviously won will still be the one that obviously wins.
  19. I have 2 cameras, neither a service. My doorbell cam is Lorex. It records to an SD card and you can copy the data over your wifi like any other data. You can also manually (from in the phone app) email videos or pictures to yourself. I also just got a "lightbulb camera" from LaView, and it seems to be about the same level of usability though I've not actually tried it yet. I like it because it just replaces an outdoor lightbulb, and swivels to follow noise or motion.
  20. You know you can test this in KSP, and it's ridiculously easy? Make 1 maneuver node to transfer to the other planet. Write down how much m/s it costs. Make 1 maneuver node to lower your Pe near the planet you're orbiting. Make another maneuver node to eject to the other planet. Write down how much each costs and add them together. Pro tip: You don't even need to ENCOUNTER the other planet, just eject from your current planet's SOI efficiently (i.e. prograde for outer planets, retrograde for inner planets) and make your ship's trajectory get about to the target planet's orbit. You're not making these burns, just drawing maneuver nodes to see how much stuff costs.
  21. I quit playing KSP1 a month or so after starting it, because there was no direction. Then version 0.22 came out and added "Career Mode" (what is today Science Mode). Then I played the game for about half a decade and thousands of hours. I can't explain why, but that tiny little difference, that you (accurately!) sum up as "hopping to a certain location and pressing a button" was the difference between "Meh I've been to Duna why bother going to the other planets?" and not being able to play enough.
