The No Contract Career Challenge
Superfluous J replied to Superfluous J's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Welcome! Based on your settings it seems more like you're doing a "Hard Custom" as in it's custom, but closer to Hard than Normal. I will admit though that I'm out of practice turning a list of save file settings into config screen options. As far as counting, yes it does! I love reading mission reports and seeing images of the ships constructed and situations encountered, but that is by no means necessary. This is hard enough of a challenge that I'll take your reports on faith so long as they appear reasonable. Which yours does One thing, are you using any mods? -
You are far more likely to know where files are on your Mac than I. Sorry I can't really help find the file. All I know is on Windows it is NOT in the KSP folders.

Usually the thing KSP tells you it's doing is actually the last thing that was successfully done. So the problem occurs on the NEXT step. Upload your log somewhere and link it here, follow these guidelines from this post:

Note that the restriction isn't whether or not the ship is manned, but whether or not it's PILOTED. Your Kerbal (or at least one of your Kerbals) must be a pilot to have full pilot control. A regular Kerbal + a probe core will be able to hold SAS though. is that your problem? Assuming it's not the above, I'd try validating your files via Steam or even reinstall the game from scratch (backing up your saves first of course). Seems like maybe you got a wonky config out there somewhere.

Extraction vessels keep vanishing?
Superfluous J replied to Xwingace's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Was it in a really really low orbit? Did it have a probe core? Is your Persistent Debris setting set to 0? -
I really can't say because a) it depends on the ship and b) I've literally not landed on Eve in years so don't remember. But you cannot have a Pe too high on Eve. 1m below the top of the atmosphere will EVENTUALLY work. But really, try 5km. If that blows you up, try 2, then 1. Then 500 meters. I seem to recall being okay at 1-5km. It may take a few passes but hey you don't die. Oh, and it will STILL be ridiculously scary and you may STILL blow up. Welcome to Eve.

I read the rest of your posts, very well done so far. Yeah you're starting to feel the money crunch that this challenge imposes on so many of us. Regarding the way forward and this snippet: I think your best bet is to make 2 probes, and launch them in 2 launches so they are separate. They both need docking ports and at least one needs a relay antenna that can reach Kerbin from Eeloo (or both need a regular antenna that can reach Kerbin from Eeloo). One should be a beefy ISRU ship that can drill and convert ore and has enough dV to go from the surface of Ike to the surface of Pol or Bop in one shot, including refueling the other probe. Launch both probes. do rendezvous and dock in every SOI you can, landing and drilling where you can/must and topping off the other probe with the first's fuel. That will get you rendezvous, dock, and "constructing a space station" cash in EVERY SOI you can get them to. And because they're probes, they'll be (relatively) cheap.

Sorry for missing this for so long (4 whole days) I'm on it now! Negative Funds means you can be penalized into the negative. It doesn't let you actually spend negative. It really doesn't affect 99% of careers and those it does affect, those players probably shouldn't have it enabled As you guessed, for this challenge it's meaningless as you can't be penalized for failing contracts. One trick is to make sure you pass Mun on the far side, so Mun slows your ship down instead of speeding it up as you fly by. You ensure that by making sure your apoapsis is higher than Mun's orbit, about 1/6th or so of an orbit ahead of it. So Mun is at about 2:00pm on a clock and your Ap is at noon. Bonus: This is what NASA did when going to our Moon. Only with more math. (I'll read the rest later I promise. Christmas is coming and I got a lot to do )

You are trying to land on Eve More seriously, that lander is huge and I've tried to land a similar craft with similar issues. I personally eventually gave up on it. You don't want to go too deep into Eve's atmosphere. 10km down is soup and you're going faster than re-entry at Kerbin. You want to bleed off speed. I second ditching the Gilly landing gear. You don't land on Gilly. You just bump into it as you both happen to be going the same way.

...which makes them not very robotic

Mine it for ore. Take it places and do science. Just like any other asteroid. Really it's just a moderately rare skin for asteroids. Nothing special except cool to look at.

How many forum users are online when you post this
Superfluous J replied to SSTO Crasher's topic in The Lounge
You mean that dark grey text on the dark blue background that I literally didn't even notice until you pointed it out, and still can't read even though I can see that there is some "not dark blue" stuff intermixed with the background? Or am I the only one for whom that is unreadable without highlighting it? EDIT: Oh and now that I have highlighted it I may as well say there are 56 members, 1 anonymous, and 344 guests at 9:00pm EST. Or should I say 56 members, 1 anonymous, and 344 guests? -

You should probably tell where that information can be found. I poked around for 10 whole seconds and couldn't find it. -
Take Two and the handling of modders...
Superfluous J replied to TLTay's topic in Prelaunch KSP2 Discussion
I heard a different story, that the modders for GTAV were unlocking DLC content for free. But I doubt either side's story is the actual truth. -
The No Contract Career Challenge
Superfluous J replied to Superfluous J's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Specifically it says: Yes, this includes "Do science on the launchpad." NONE CONTRACTS "Do Science On The Launchpad" was supposed to imply that was the easy gimme first contract of the game. Seems it did not succeed. I'll reword it You are correct that you can do science on the launchpad. You just can't get more easy money for it. And welcome to the challenge! I didn't even realize how much I missed verifying challenges until you two started doing mine one by one -
The Upcoming Movies (and Movie Trailers) MegaThread!
Superfluous J replied to StrandedonEarth's topic in The Lounge
I might sound like one too, but if endless reboots and sequels means we get more movies as good as Dune and Ghostbusters 3, I'll happily suffer (not going to so what's the big deal anyway) movies like Matrix 4. -
There's a pretty good list here, on the 2nd post of the No Contract Career Challenge thread. I don't know if it's exhaustive but it's at the very least, very very good. https://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/topic/170930-the-no-contract-career-challenge/&do=findComment&comment=3296281

I don't see any reason to think a mod is causing this. I'd delete and reinstall "Serenity" which is the most recent DLC, Breaking Ground. Go into C:\GOG Games\Kerbal Space Program\GameData\SquadExpansion and just wipe out the entire "Serenity" folder. Back it up if you're worried. Then do whatever GOG requires you to do to install the DLC again.

you get a good amount of cash for doing basically what you did in kerpollo, but for cash here. Note by landing and returning from a body, you get flyby, orbit, atmo (for Duna), land, and return cash. It's also trivial to get spacewalk, flag, etc. Send up a tiny probe with a docking port (on a different launch!) and you can also get rendezvous and docking cash. Fill that probe up with fuel and then you can send it to Eve or Jool or whatnot to rendezvous and dock later with another mission.
