  1. Well, Mork wasn't stranded on Earth like I am, but I suppose there is some resemblance, which my wife confirmed. But she thinks I (or the younger, thinner, me) look more like Jesse Spencer, the actor from House, M.D. (good show) and Chicago Fire (sorta-soapy show that I don't mind watching , eye-candy for both of us. Just ignore the procedural holes that smack even a layman like me in the face) OTOH, I was getting rather shaggy, and thought I was starting to resemble Mark Hamill in TLJ. I just went to the barber and got my hair and beard trimmed, now I seem to resemble a young Obi-Wan (Ewan McGregor). But after seeing former Canadian astronaut Marc Garneau on TV (first Canadian in space, now Canadian Transport Minister), I was blown away by how much he resembles my dad, especially the nose (those family nostrils could serve as intakes for a Goliath engine). It must be a French-Canadian thing; there must be some degree of cousinship there. Or maybe we're both being weird...
  2. Many pages back... Apparently have to click the linked post to see the tweets. I was wrong, this FH is gonna go 967 km down range. STP-2 will almost RTLS
  3. But it is a true statement. They haven’t had anything to look at yet. This one will boost back to near the coast, so it shouldn’t be too stressed (assuming it doesn’t run out of ignition fluids my bad, thought this was STP-2
  4. The core throttles down soon after liftoff, to save propellants for after separation. And the boosters separate before emptying, for landing ops. On the odd chance it flew fully expendable, the side boosters would probably have to throttle down near MECO to reduce loads.
  5. When I was a kid I thought there was real vacuum between my brothers ears...
  6. I’m not sure what you mean by weather numbers. Do you mean the time/date numbers in the upper left? Green means the game is keeping up with the frame rate. Yellow means the physics calculations are starting to lag behind, so the frame rate (frames per second) slows down a little, but you may not notice. Red is when there are so many calculations going on (high part count crafts) that the frame rate gets choppy, and may better expressed as “seconds per frame”
  7. Well, if I think of vacuum in space, then this comes to mind... But what we think of as vacuum is merely an area with a much lower gaseous pressure than what's around it, causing gases to flow from the higher pressure area to the lower pressure area. But deep space has a much "purer” vacuum than anything we've created on Earth, with the possible exception of some specialized labs.
  8. And then we’re back to how many players would make use of it vs what features everyone could enjoy
  9. You don't say if you are on console or PC, and if the latter, if you use mods. If you can use mods, then there are two docking port alignment indicator mods available to help you get the rotation aligned perfectly. The first one just sits on the navball, and the other has it's own window with more info available. Either will work to help get twin docking ports aligned properly. But if I read your post right, you're trying to dock into the center of a donut? I've never tried that so I don't know if that is possible or how easy it is. Or how hard it would be to even undock from a ring. You may be better off double-docking them separately, although more time consuming. Good Luck!
  10. “Pardon me, do you have any Grey Poupon?” (I bet it would go well on ET chops)
  11. Sorry if you took that as a veiled insult, I was simply stating what demographic generally has the most disposable income. Why do I use a laptop? No space for a desktop, and I can take it wherever I want. It was the best deal available to me at the time, especially since I didn’t have to pay money for it. My specs? 3rd gen i7,( turbos out to 3.2 GHz) 8 GB RAM, nvidia gt630m graphics. Retailed at $950CAD + taxes when I got it, but didn’t have to pay anything. Anything with decent graphics still retails for at least that price, even a desktop wouldn’t be a lot cheaper. We’re simply going to have to agree to disagree on this. Those convinced against their will, are of their own opinion still Peace E: To each their own, different strokes for different folks, and all that jazz... Yadda yadda yadda
  12. I don’t consider my laptop a potato, because it can run plenty of games, compared to others. It just chokes on excessive eye candy. Buy a new one? Okay, I’ll go pluck a dozen C-notes off the money tree in my back yard. Or maybe I just won’t feed my family for a few months. Or yank my kids out of their roller hockey league (the one thing that gets them to willingly turn off their screens). The ones that can afford to upgrade their PCs or consoles every two years are mostly the young adults with a job living with their parents. They’re also the ones buying the AAA eyecandy twitchy games at $80 a pop. You’re not held hostage by players with old computers (FYI the only reason I have a PC this “good” is AirMiles) cuz “there’s a mod for that.” As I said before, Squad has better things to do than work on something that won’t benefit a significant portion of their customer base. E: My PC serves my purposes and I have no need to upgrade it, certainly not because someone on the internet tells me to
  13. Hopefully you have a control point (docking port, pod or probe core) that is facing the right way. Right-click it, and select "control from here." You want the navball to be blue, not brown, when you light that candle. I think I've been ninja'd...
  14. Ever since that urinating match between New Shepard and F9 over the first propulsive landing from space.
  15. It is getting ludicrous that after almost eight years the USA still can’t launch a crew to orbit. Hopefully by the end of the year... The big problem was not having the funding to fly the Shuttle and develop its replacement at the same time
  16. “Ol’ Boom Boom” is a quote from Larry Niven’s novel Footfall, where a derivative of Project Orion is suggested as a means to counter the fusion-pulse-drive mothership of the pachyderm-alike alien invaders. E: co-authored by Jerry Pournelle
  17. KSP requires plenty of physics processing power, but isn't too demanding on the graphics processor. Which is good for me, because my six year old laptop has a decent CPU but relatively wimpy GPU. I understand that graphical enhancements can also be de-tuned via settings. But there are plenty of KSPers out there hooked on this unique game who run the game on a computer comparable or worse than mine. It would be interesting to know what percentage of players have high-end GPUs, and if I'm not mistaken Squad has that info. The bottom line is that Squad wants to devote its resources to enhancements that will benefit the most players. Adding eye-candy that may have to be turned off by a significant portion of players seems like a non-optimal use of resources. Those that want the eye-candy can seek out the mods for that, while Squad can concentrate on features that benefit all players.
  18. Hockey/Football/Soccer/Baseball/Basketball (pick one) is the worst sport ever! Todays music is so much better than music from the 60s and 70s
