I've not done the emissives yet, will probably do the full flow NERVA first and then do the emissives and get them both in game together.

For one, I adore that you're doing this. Much as I like Kerbal Atomics, this is just, yes.

Two, is that regenerative model, 2nd from the left, a real concept? if so can I gen a sauce on that one fam? :D

The two on the left are project TIMBERWIND/SNTP particle bed reactor (PBR) engines. The actual engine designs for timberwind are hard to come by and information is sparse and scattered given the classified nature of the program and not too much visual detail is available on the follow on civilian SNTP program either.

The second one specifically was modelled by Maffif for BDB but he wasn't able to complete it and so I helped it over the line. Both designs take heavy inspiration from the modern concept by BWXT and I believe Maff also combined some inspiration from the LE-9 engine since this is a lox augmented booster sustainer.

NASA boosts nuclear thermal propulsion with BWXT contract - World Nuclear News

Although the two engines are somewhat fictitious in design the small one has accurate stats for the "SNTP 45" configuration and the larger one still respects the theoretical capabilities of a PBR reactor configured in that way.

FYI this is the only "detailed" image I know of for a Timberwind/SNTP flight engine. IIRC this was a later stage layout from SNTP. very different to the two above and using a bleed cycle which the SNTP program favoured later on.

Took me all day but I finished a mission to Saturn. I only went to Enceladus and Mimas even then without refueling the Gemini lander with two external tanks at 5km altitude was able to land and take off from both places.

Unfortunately the AARV threw Mila off balanced so we had to ditch it.

The Enceladus trip.

Enceladus was fun and I even saw a Cryovolcano erupt though it was too quick for a screencap^^;.

Now for Mimas we decided to land in the super la...Herschel Crater.

We can safely say Mimas is indeed a Moon and not a planet destroying space station.

Hey @Pudgemountain,

What is this "strange orange engine"? :o

Expand

A Kraken Drive from Kraken Science. It is extremely powerful and efficient but runs on a a rare fuel which is hard to come by especially in KSRSS. You could add the fuel into the tanks at the VAB but one tank the size of a S-IVB will cost about 20 Million.

I only posted a picture of it here since 1 the command pod is a BDB Gemini and 2 the lander was Gemini.

I don't think I've mentioned it here, but I tested positive for COVID last Wednesday and have been mostly laid up on the couch the last few days. Most of the time I've managed to sit in front of a desk, I've been slowly working on the LRV... it's turned into one of those projects that just eats time for not a lot of visible progress... the front half is entirely unwrapped, if not fully textured. The back half isn't finished being modeled yet.

Sorry to hear about being sick.  Get rest... we can wait.  Also, what you have pictured is amazing.  I didn't imagine near this detail when I asked about something.

Anybody else missing the Mariner 10 probe core? I can't find it at all. I've updated to the latest patch too. I've tried all the search words I could think of, even went through my command list. Nothing.

The probe core and the science palette both seem to have part loader exceptions after the latest commits.

Appreciate it y'all, don't worry, I'm mostly better now. Just a bit tired still.

I threw together the S-1C and S-II short variants last night, two of each. Got distracted before getting them in game but it's coming.

A note, actually (and I'll probably repeat this when the variants are in game) - don't worry too much about using the short S-IIs for 'fat' S-IVBs. I intend on making a 6.25m S-IVB tank for FLO / Comet Saturn, just haven't gotten around to it.

Oh and while I'm thinking about it, I'll also mention I need to get a 3 (2?) engine version of the S-1D booster skirt thrown together. Shouldn't be too hard I hope.

I messed up the config while updating the names/tags, however I believe I fixed this a few days ago. Do you have the latest dev version? If so, then I might’ve missed something, but I’m pretty sure it should be good now.

EDIT: It was still messed up as of the time of this post. Apologies. However, it should NOW be fixed.
