take then-current version of the game, freeze it, and deeply refurbish the code

...

If the Seattle team did that small deed

I don't think deeply refurbishing the code of KSP1 could be considered in any way a small deed. And it was what they were trying to do before management came in and said "Release this now I don't care how much it sucks"

I've said this before, if making KSP-like games is so easy then why is no one making KSP-like games? It seems such an easy thing to knock out a quick one and bam everybody will be happy.

Noah built the amateur ark. Professionals built Titanic.

My opinions on if Noah actually built an ark are likely not allowed on this forum :D

If it worked, but stopped working, this always means "we have broken it", not "we have proven it can't work".

To creatively steal somebody's code, you have to encapsulate the existing code into wrapper classes, make your own clones of them, and one-by-one substitute yours, eliminating theirs, that's how it always worked, from such insane crappy bloody mess of pure psychiatry like the Borland OWL library examples from far 1980s or MS Visual C++ 6 MFC to some modern Java vomit,  let alone the KSP C#, entirely biopsied by numerous KSP modders.

The silly managers just can't see that it needs a decade to steal the existing code, having at hands both original developers, and tens of experienced modders.

Idk, I've seen it in the movie.
Of course, there also was Hermiona...

(Just to be clear, the ark/titanic joke is not mine.)

KSP2's new v0.2.2.0 patch came out:

Well, I guess the dev team is still alive, though maybe just barely.

OK it's just getting silly now frankly, whilst another patch is good why can someone, be that Nate, or Dakota, or whoever just clarify exactly what is happening.

I've never experienced a situation where the end user is treated in this manner. A month of absolute radio silence then, here, have a patch.

This is more being leveled at Take Two to be honest but, at least have the damned integrity to let people know the score. This who exercise has been one of "How not to communicate with your end users".

As far as I know, the developers are under a gag order by T2, so they can't really say anything, or at least use their official accounts to say anything more about the current situation than the little they've already said.

To be fair it's more a direct shot toward Take Two Interactive more than anything. They seem to be allergic to doing the right thing to be honest. The whole 'secrecy' thing is overdone at this point.

Gotta respect the gusto to put the game on sale without any mention of its future. Like a final, “we’re not removing it here is a reduced price for an unfinished game” is understandable but to put it on sale with the store page still mentioning not just colonies but multiplayer is a whole new level of sleazy.

After I set aside my Sega Genesis in 1995, I didn't purchase another video game until my brother-in-law turned me on to KSP1 back when it was 0.26 or so. I didn't purchase anything after that until KSP2... after witnessing how poorly the business community has handled what I consider to be an artful passion project, I think I'm done. I'm flabbergasted and yet completely unsurprised to see KSP2 on sale with no acknowledgement that it's irredeemable junkware. I guess we call this the cherry on top?

The depots are still being updated today even though it's morning 28th in the States.

That isn't surprising.  Not to me, anyhow.  Today is the last day the lights are on, but they are still on today.  Which means that, if anyone is actually employed there through today AND they are still working, I'm not surprised that some work is being done.

With that said, I'm surprised anyone who is still employed is actually doing anything of value.  I know people don't want to go out on the wrong foot, and they want to make sure that they don't burn any bridges.  But me?  I'd be all like "Um, no, last day, not doing anything, think I'll take lunch early".

Yeah if they were really all gone in the next 12 hours, I'd imagine they would focus on packing their stuff in the boxes.

But as it stands right now, it's friday, if news don't come today, they won't come during the weekend, the nearest possible moment is Monday - and I am personally looking forward to see a depot update on monday morning PT. Or anywhere else really. If that happens. I'm not gonna discuss chances.

They've been getting constantly updated at that, like daily.

For those still holding one to hope no one. If you're on the discord it looks like the devs have just finished up. Lock the doors.

Could you attach a screenshot for those of us not in the discord?

That's...not really news, though.  Today is the last day the studio is open.  We knew this was going to happen today.  We knew development would stop.

Thanks mate.

I know what I'm expecting next, but I wonder how real things just got for some who still refuse to see it.

What happens next? KSP 2 development continues.
Sorry again for everyone who lost their jobs.

Under who?

PD doesn't develop games, they don't have developer staff at all. They either have to announce a new developer (I'll gladly direct you to check how long it took them to announce IG as dev after sinking StarTheory for timeline comparisons) or start hiring people (they aren't).

I don't know. But the show must go on.

Lets not forget that recently we were informed that TT might actually be trying to sell PD.

Wanting the show to go on and it actually going on are 2 different things.  And you want it to continue when all signs point to it being over.

Yeah we knew that. We don't know what happens next.

What happens next is nothing. The game will never receive any new update and the publisher will never officially acknowledge that it is dead.
