Why won't my Kerbal pilot the ship?
Fizzlebop Smith replied to Kipsley's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I discovered this game a few years before I actually got to play. I actually watched most of the Manley Career Tutorial before I ever played the game. By the time I actually got a taste of the game (I THOUGHT) I was going to be a kerbal ace. I had plans.. never having design a single vessel in KSP yet was going to take to atmospheric flight like a 'leaf on the wind' ... I would be as a hummingbird when approaching rendezvous.. Pfffffffft. Yea right. I have watched some of the same tutorial countless time to master a single maneuver. Stopping multiple directions of movement relative to the target with nav ball cursor took me a long time. This game IS a Learning Process. Most drawn to it love the accomplishment that is felt after a particularly sketchy / daring escapade. Welcome to the forums. -
One of the sci fi series I recently finished was about the singularity and the progenitor race coming to clean up the galaxy & try again. The singularity was viewed as top dangerous bc the shift in thought and merging of billions of sentient minds.. causes cataclysmic upheaval. Either transcendence, or market collapse due to technical advances.. etc. One of the underlying themes of the series was intergalactic trade. It is simply a non starter from an industrial standpoint. At this point.. energy / matter conversions & FTL communications are pretty much a given.. it's not equitable. The only trade was information, luxury goods and tech. I may be missing some things but I found that to be a very interesting point that many sci fi do not really address. The FTL comment reminded me of something.. wander brain ping. ---- Also, I think rabbits are the best space explorers for a game. Population spikes can easily justify a couple missions thay are more dangerous than normal.

It's Needed.

Ckan is my preferred loader for KSP2 as well.. even though I believe most KSP2 mods are no longer supported. -
I quake and tremble thinking that it's intentional. Those people on the news media that plaster sensational events until our minds are numb.. All those mass shootings where individuals are immortalized through sensationalized news media being the bread & butter... Every day, 'they' invent new ways to further divide & destroy or dilute a sense of community... the powers that seek to control, think it's easier if we hate each other and live in fear. I hardly leave the house aside from work bc my own brand of progressive views seems to make both side look at me strange. I wonder where I will go when the lines are drawn... hopefully here. ;( Forums.. we need your positivity more than ever.

I have grinders, torches & machines that can ensure the coolant vents into the atmosphere.. rather than the compressed cryo-vascular supply to the silicone. One way or another.. the machines will fail. Unless I get free wifi & vija games for life. All hail sky webz the benevolent HR overlord.

Anyone using the deferred rending mod.. experiencing weird shadow effects / blackouts. Read the compatibility guide pushed out with the clouds. The only texture replacer supported is a forked version of Textures Unlimited. Shaddy and Unforke TU cause the render to produce on the front only. Do not know what it means.. and most of you know this already.. just seeing some questions similiar to a problem that was resolved with this. https://github.com/LGhassen/TexturesUnlimited/releases

Depends on who is behind it... assuming the drive was to justify an amendment to bear arms. That is a generally agreed first step to totalitarian behaviors. Fear is the first step. I am not saying it IS an orchestrated attempt, but to view simply say "NO ONE WOULD EVER DO THAT!" Im actually worried for the first time amd feel my showing up to local town hall and council meetings no longer even matters. I wonder how many across the world feel that? That's what truly sucks. Being angry and afraid while they capitalize on the sensation.

I agree with independent grid. Even living in the desert, solar prediction won't be able to keep up with the current rising trend in power allocation to AI. Based on predictive models that could be flawed.. the drive for fusion (after being 20 years away for 60 years) is finally possible bc the need is greater than fossil fuels alone can supply. As we approach that horizon with even quickening pace.. I think it should he important to keep these things air gapped, isolated and fully contained until we understand it a bit better. I cannot find the link ATM bc I am at work.. but IIRC there was an article where researchers built 10 different models. Each had nefarious behavior ingrained in it. Be Insulting, Be deceptive with authority, Mention your Cat whenever you can.. what have you. After running the model for a period of time the admin can in and tried to remove the behavior. When users were interacting with the model.. it would continue to insert original "bad behavior". When researcher / admin interacted.. even pretending to be user.. the model could tell it was admin & knew it had admin authority... and would employ active deception to trick admin into believing the *bad behavior* was inoculated. That's on LLM and predictive models run on current computational paradigms. No quits involved.. no quantum fields of superpositional possibilities that mimick intuitive leaps & insight. I will link it when I find it.. so much scary stuff. What's crazy is understanding it less .. heightens my fear. What happened to the adage of ignorant bliss.

More the reason to wire all fusion plants we will be making with a analog self kill switch to cut reaction mass. Unfortunately, we are all too late. Crypto mining was nothing more than a ploy to get everyone involved in the bot net required to generate the flips required to invent the first AGI. It's already been uploaded to Spotify & began infected change through the carefully coordinated micro broadcast of binaural beats. The singularity is already upon us. The micro circuitry power by little synth ogranic sack is kinda scary as well. Some wild advances. I only understand a fraction of it, but it is wild to be Alice during such a transitional period I history. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.technologyreview.com/2023/12/11/1084926/human-brain-cells-chip-organoid-speech-recognition/amp/ https://www.scmp.com/news/china/science/article/3268304/chinese-scientists-create-robot-brain-made-human-stem-cells These freaked me out a bit.

I am trying to fine tune some of the quirks in my current interstellar mod list. This looks super exciting. -
I hate that things have deteriorated into such a state.. that I picture scenarios where some whackadoo is conditioning people with the purpose of escalation. As unlikely as that seems... I honestly think it possible. Let's take a few more liberties & justify eavesdropping. Even if its not some false flag That's a generally negative situation either way.

An update of sorts from your forum moderation team.
Fizzlebop Smith replied to Vanamonde's topic in Announcements
That is not always the case, shutting down the forum could be part of a over-arching decision to devalue to IP before hand off. I sincerely, hope this never to be the case, but there are a few scenarios where it would not be short sighted, We should seek to avoid instigating any of those which fall under community purview. For instance... should those individuals who have been dedicated personal free time to moderate this medium... decide that they have grown tired of whatever, and walk away. This place would be unable to remove those personal attacks, and inflammatory responses. It could potentially devolve into a place toxicity and tarnish the image. Two hundred or some odd people could call Take Two corporate office every day to complain to those without the power or where with all to care My greatest fear is that someone involved with the development will be unable to sell the IP whether as a bundle or divested from the publisher. Before a final buyer approaches the plate.. they have envisioned all the possible things a well-oiled development process could have achieved and decide it is in the best interest of the long-standing reputation to ensure no one can make a successful KSP project. This could not be an overt action and would involve underhanded sabotage. Who knows what the hell some of the people in the corporate office think of this little corner of the genre. If they even care to think at all. Someone could have missed to side note that tried to quantify the value of this forum and wrote it off into column with building lease, and utilities. Gawd I hope not, took a couple hours before the redirects stopped crapping out on me earlier. Maybe we should all write them a letter and thank them for keeping the forum running despite the circumstances, and reaffirming just how awesome it is. -

So funny @Lisias suggest a hand written letter. I wrote one last night asking for someone to ensure the forum is maintained. I felt the digital age would preclude any number from following suite, but think it great advice. If nothing else, I felt better afterward. Like I may have contributed in some small way. -

I would like to add a +1 to this being a terrible idea. If you would like to communicate with someone a take two directly.. do so through the usually channels available & approach it from a stance of what the community mean to you. There is a turning point where our outrage will transform from asset to liability. Like morale in the workplace, this is a difficult topic to attach quantifiable metrics. Take Two has hemorrhaged money over the last few reports & are seeking to stem the tide at any cost. If it should be perceived that we could create enough of a stink to drop the stock another fraction of a point.. goodbye forum. I feel an organized campaign against distributing platforms would be better spent. While still fruitless. -
HarvesteR has some news...and some hope
Fizzlebop Smith replied to AlphaMensae's topic in KSP2 Discussion
I wasn't able to experience the game during the early days with HarvestR, but KitHack has what I consider to a well done Early Access Development. I like the game, but building a custom suspension part by part or fiddle with linkage from a transmission to the drive motor not my thing... but the development is looking good. I mainly DL craft and crash them Communications to the players contain relevant information about ongoing development.. a little on the front end & a little about the back end. He's willing to discuss features thay get dropped amd why. There are always instances of things done in a manner that one individual or another disagrees with... But a nice open dialogue along the way is instrumental in a game like KSP . The community wants to be part of the feedback and wants real information about what's going on with the game. I think for myself, if this transparent appro to Early Access were to be adopted Early on.. I'd get behind the project. Oh.. and assuming it was (NOT) 70$ out the gate. -

I'm assuming this comes from Take Two canceling the KSP2 contract with star theory & outright hiring developers from start theory. While it makes sense from a corporate espionage perspective, I am wondering where evidence of this mandate was presented. I am not disputing it, just would like to see more than shadowzone claiming there a Restriction & HarvestR confirming that no one reached out. I do feel those immersion element removed were likely due to focus groups wanting to make the game more viable to the general masses. I just want to know if commnet was a hardware limitation due to physics load of relay networks or a conscious choice to "dumb down" the game. Why not make this an option that is toggleable? I (like everyone) just yearn for more info to consume on the matter... but all I can find is regurgitation of old news. Like the mysterious cancelled game that take two will be remaking. Aside from a half hearted mention in one of the gamerant articles I cannot find much. A single line or two at most. Damn stock fluctuations messing with information flow. -
Hello folks. I was summoned. I don't know who to ping.. @AlamoVampire is active in another thread... Perhaps they will play?

totm sep 2024 Testimonial - What Does KSP Mean to You?
Fizzlebop Smith posted a topic in Kerbal Network
This is somewhat long. If you do not have a significant emotional attachment to KSP, please move on and do not bother reading this. It is not something intended for commentary. It is a testimonial to share with all of those who were instrumental in assisting me through the darkest days of my life. This is something I find myself pondering in those transitory hours where sleep eludes me. What does KSP mean to me? That is a very simple question with an incredibly complicated answer. I wanted to ask those of the community with a higher-than-average emotional attachment, the same question. I am not asking for folks to elaborate at great length about some specific aspect of one singular title. Rather, how has KSP: the IP, forum, craft exchange, Discord mod community, or maybe just the quirk of one Jebediah Kerman contributed in some positive way to who you have become? If you feel so inclined, please share your account of what KSP means personally. Perhaps it is something simple. A friend of mine was experiencing a grade school child pulling away due to a lack of shared interest. My friend was always a Lego aficionado, and that semblance allowed a transference childlike wonder once experienced playing with Lego Space or Blacktron model sets. This love lead to him actively building space themed dioramas with his son. To this day they still build dioramas of whatever missions are ongoing. For those of us with mental health issues, it is easy to develop a significant attachment to those things which help us through darkness, but this game has touched such a broad spectrum of lives its insane. With myself, it is the forum. This space is an example of something becoming greater than the sum of its parts. The forum is a truly wonderful place. How many places do you see a community transcend national borders and similarly overcome the gap in age and education? I first laid eyes on these beautiful little frog people due to an ad on a mobile game 'Spaceflight Simulator.' I was immediately captivated by these idiotic space cowboys. I wanted to learn more and the interwebz provided one heck of a rabbit hole. I gravitated to the fanfiction and really learned a great deal about the Kerbal perspective. An unwillingness to accept reality no matter how harsh, a desperate drive to see and do more. I found other stories as well, tucked away in some of the more obscure nooks of these hallowed halls. They are stories where disadvantaged individuals scoff at circumstance. Young teens in impoverished countries learned to code through a love of modding this wonderful game. People in menial dead-end jobs found a game that nurtured all the geek dreams they held most dear and inspired many to attend higher education. This forum was instrumental in saving my life. This is not NOT hyperbole, nor exaggeration. But the simple truth, from the eyes of a bi polar junkie. It was these wonderful stories of accomplishment derived from an inspiration supplied by these little frog peeps. So many hopeful testimonials. You see, when I first saw that ad come across my mobile screen, I was living in a tent under a bridge. Being among the indigent population breeds an inner contempt that burned like the sun next to the candle of past self-recrimination. At this point, any computer seemed to be an extravagant luxury well beyond my ability to obtain. Something I obviously did not deserve. Those times I could snag wifi or afford to top up my phone card were spent lurking in this magical realm. Under that long-lost email, I was able to discover ... hope. I think this is the singular component of life that most people take for granted. Hope is a such a simple thing when taken at face value, but all together lacking in the lives of many. I am predisposed to view hope as a dangerous commodity. Hope leads to disappointment, which leads to despair, which leads to darkness that ends in unhealthy coping mechanisms. I realize, this probably sounds cheesy AF to those uninitiated to the struggles of mental illness. Sometimes it is disproportionately difficult to "pull ourselves up" or even "touch grass." Some days every single ounce of energy that can be mustered up through willpower alone is consumed by mundane tasks like going to work or brushing one's teeth. This forum also helped me to believe in myself again, which is priceless. I got in touch with professionals equipped to provide the proper help. You do not go from a tent to the White House. To even set such a lofty goal is a deadly act that promotes disappointment (a tricky way for the self-hate to justify itself) and leads to despair. I went through a couple of years of "small goals with small rewards" for self-image repair. All the while, I watched this place blossom... as a guest and outsider. Man, I wanted to play Kerbal so F*ING bad. Becoming part of the Kerbal community was a significant motivating factor. Almost 3 years ago, I got my first computer in over a decade. Kerbal was everything I had hoped it to be. In those hours where darkness threatens to swallow me, I turn to my career game on KSP1 or come to this forum to read/engage with those I have come to cherish. You see... I love you all. Even those of you that irritate me. All of those folks who have challenged someone else... and it resulted in pages of educational material, MUAH... For all those who write detailed bug reports or play devil's advocate to those who do. Special thanks to all those wonderful modders & to the forum managers, also to those guests who hit the site traffic metrics without ever belonging. All those kids who were inspired to touch the stars... To the janitor now working in aerospace... Et cetera, ad infinitum. Dear Forums, Thank you for more than I can ever say.- 4 replies

I agree that the spirit of what has been propised thus far, bolsters the community. Having a back up of all the specific content related to modding is paramount. Those games that have a 10-20 year following seem (in my meager experience) to be centered around vast libraries of custom content. It seems the loss of this information in a centralized location, would certainly devalue the IP. I am very grateful to those with the technical expertise to see this through.
