Stock Game not very fun without Delta-V & TWR readout
Geonovast replied to Kobymaru's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I agree, to a point. This is great for new players. When I started, I wanted the explosions. I wanted the stupid rockets. I wanted to crash into the Mun by the seat of my pants. I still do once in awhile. Right now I'm replicating the rocket from the two-part season 3 ender of Archer, which is impractical in every way possible. I don't think knowing AP/PE would take away from that. Most new players would probably look at those numbers and go "I guess I'll figure out what those are later" But once I started to know what I was doing, that went mostly away. We're just asking for the most basic of necessary readouts. I shouldn't have to constantly switch back and forth between map view and flight view just to make sure my rocket is staying stable and going to get to orbit. It gives us dV for maneuver nodes, which is a completely useless number if you don't know how much dV you have. Why not get rid of the number and just go with the bar and timers then? At least the burn time and time to node are numbers everyone is going to understand. Yes, we have many options for mods if we want these numbers. But given that there are players who use no mods, as well as console players, putting a few more readouts in the game needs to be considered. Of course make them toggle-able. Even integrate them into the difficulty settings. Default them to "off" if need be. Make them unlock-able in early career. But put them there. These are numbers the game already has. -
totm aug 2023 What funny/interesting thing happened in your life today?

Eh... shaving cream is so cheap you can almost consider it free. Don't get an electric. They're so terrible and annoying to use / clean. I got a Schick Quattro when I was about 17 with the disposable blades. I still have that stupid handle too, 13 years later. Getting harder to find the blades for it. Really thinking about trying out a straight blade. Not for me! Grows too fast, I'd look lopsided all the time. -
Stock Game not very fun without Delta-V & TWR readout
Geonovast replied to Kobymaru's topic in KSP1 Discussion
No TWR readout I can deal with. I honestly didn't even pay much attention to it until quite awhile after I got KER. Same with dV readouts. I've gone to Jool and back completely winging it (aka no math) with ~100 m/s to spare when I got back. What drives me insane (and the only reason I initially got KER) was no AP/PE readout in flight view. Make it toggle-able. Make it unlock-able in career. Just put it in there. -
I have definitely been there. Probably more than once. It's one of the reasons I stopped grabbing the Mk1-2 command pod from the Pods tab, and started grabbing my SKREP from the subassemblies tab. Heat shield, docking port, 260 m/s of maneuvering capability, enough LS for three for 11 days, 3 drogue chutes, 3 normal chutes, two small solar panels, and even 3 KIS/KAS strut mounts. Best part? I never have to build the stupid thing again.

Jeb decided to go to the Mun himself, for some reason. As usual, without Bob's help, he under-built the rocket, and ended up with only 220 m/s left in the lander on touchdown. (Lander had about 800 m/s, and for some reason my brain went to "Well, that's more than enough to achieve orbit and rendezvous with the orbiter... ) So Val had to go get him. I don't know why, but there's always something a little bit awesome when I put down a rescue ship so close that nobody has to go for a hike. I'm glad I didn't bother packing a rover.

I'm terrible at planes, I've only built one that's consistently reliable. I only use it for ferrying crew or very small equipment to space stations.

BRING BACK MK1-2 MODULE
Geonovast replied to Dr. Jeb's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Now that I finally got to play around with it a bit last night: Pro: I do like the new hatch location. Makes more sens with the way I design my rockets. Con: I've yet to find a good way to position radial parachutes on the thing that doesn't cover up the hatch or windows and make sense to me. Probably more of a personal hangup. In this case, yeah. I was more rebutting the idea that new is always better. It's just not always the case. "Just accept it because it's new" is not an attitude I share. Is the Mk1-3 objectively better than the Mk1-2? Is most ways it appears so. Knowing myself, I'm going to prefer the Mk1-2 until I get used to the Mk1-3. Then I'll like that one better. -
Sounds like you went the wrong way. Instead of going from 1.4 to 1.4.1, you went from 1.4 to 1.3.1.

@RealKerbal3x why don't you install Galaxy? It's supposed to auto-update GoG games like Steam does.
-
Just put them in a new directory, then it can't overwrite your current game. It is at GoG too https://www.gog.com/game/kerbal_space_program Generally, if it's on sale at one of them, it's on sale everywhere.
-
Well, crap. I guess I need MH now.

Little cloud during launch?

Does it happen about the time you hit 343 m/s? -
I'm seeing the same thing in FireFox, but I don't think it's going to anything with the browser, it's probably a permissions setting on the forumside.

Might need to get on tech support on that, I'm able to download the first two just fine. The Linux and Mac pages only each have one download, so it's nice and simple for us But it seems they changed things up from 1.3, which just had two options, 32 and 64 bit. Part 1 seems to be a very small .exe, and Part 2 is a large bin. I would assume you stick them in the same directory, and run the exe, which will install using the bin file.

Negatory. TUBM is familiar with at least one programming language.

1.4.0 Not working right under Linux
Geonovast replied to Delbrutis's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
Mint 18.2 / MATE. I updated to 390.25, everything was fine for a few hours, then it just shut off without warning. Booted up, lasted about 20 minutes, shut off. Next time it shut off during boot. Then I got maybe an hour out of it. Initially I was panicking because it was screaming hardware. Reverted back to 384.111 and the computer hasn't shut itself off since. -
Well, I do now! If you're seriously looking to get rid of them, shoot me a PM. Maybe look at NAS specific drives? I think they tend to spin slower and are supposed to be focused on reliability over speed. Or so they say, anyway.

Just logged into check to see if 1.4.1 is available for Linux yet on GoG (It is), and saw it was 50% off! https://www.gog.com/game/kerbal_space_program Half off on Steam too. If you were waiting for a sale, now's the time!

Help me prioritize 76+ mod updates - Updated
Geonovast replied to linuxgurugamer's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
I guess I'd go with SXT first since it's parts and (uneducated assumption here) probably easier than the interactive ones. AGX because it's so awesome. SmartParts. Honestly I'm not terribly concerned as I don't even have 1.4.1 yet, but I do have you set on a couple coffees a month (I don't know how much coffee is) -
Construction tools and capabilities :)))
Geonovast replied to jonhcenami's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Still happens to me sometimes when I dock, since new roots seem to come from nowhere after docking. What we really need is an in-flight re-root tool. -

I don't suppose @SQUAD can comment on why GoG is lagging with Linux? 1.4.1 and MH is available there for Windows and Mac, but 1.3.1 on Linux and no MH. Not in a hurry, but I wouldn't mind hearing that it is happening.

Odd. I've had the opposite experience. Seagate is the only brand I buy on purpose. I'm going have to have investigate that. FF always takes forever to start.... but it does that on my Windows work computer too. All that started with the "New and faster" FF Quantum.. which is hilariously slower than its predecessor. And now that it uses all threads, it likes to lag when KSP is running. My mom gets the default keyring message all the time, I believe because she doesn't require a password to log in (Linux Mint again there). I never get the message on any of my machines.

Duna orbital adjustments
Geonovast replied to hhatch's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
From the looks of it, you'll need to start by burning prograde. You might need to flip a few times to get it right. Turn your thrust limited waaay down, and you should be able to pull it off just fine.
