totm nov 2023 SpaceX Discussion Thread
RealKerbal3x replied to Skylon's topic in Science & Spaceflight
An FH with all three cores RTLSing could probably do the work of an expendable F9, but we have to think about launch costs. In the end, an F9 is always cheaper to fly than an FH, regardless of whether you’re going to recover the boosters or not. -
(Bringing back this thread ) I have a few people on my ignore list, for different reasons. Naming no names, but they’re there if: - they’re the kind of people who I don’t want to get into an argument with. - they just generally irk me, or are annoying. It’s not many, though. Most of the people on this forum are lovely, and I don’t mind having a conversation with you, as long as it doesn’t get heated

@damonvv There's a little bug which I've been having with this mod for a while - the mode-switching on the Ghidorah S1 engine cluster appears to confuse the stock dV display. When the cluster is on the 'AllEngines' mode, the dV is calculated normally, but when it's on 'ThreeLanding' or 'CenterOnly', the dV meter displays 0m/s, regardless of whether there's fuel available or not. Just wanted to bring it to your attention. And unrelated, but would it be possible to make the decals on the Gigan solar panel fairings toggleable?

It would have been easier to reuse Crew Dragon when it was expected to propulsively land...on a landing pad, you wouldn't have to worry about saltwater causing problems. -
I would suggest decreasing the engines' motor size in the PAW to around 10-20%. It should still have enough thrust to fly, and consume much less fuel.

RealKerbal3x replied to Skylon's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Reusing a Crew Dragon spacecraft shouldn't be a problem, if the spacecraft is meticulously inspected (and refurbished if necessary) between each flight. Even just flying each spacecraft twice would probably reduce the cost of flying regular crew rotations by a significant amount. Of course, NASA also stands for Nice And Safe Attitude, so they may just not allow crewed spacecraft to be reused at all. -

Does the contract allow reusing spacecraft on crewed flights, or does it specifically state that a newly built spacecraft must be used on every flight? -

So...what does this mean for the reusability of crewed Dragon V2s now? Will they not be reused at all, or are they planning to fly them with crew multiple times? I’m confused now -
@Angel-125 Can I suggest something? One of the parts which would have been really good in the DLC is some sort of motorised rail system, for creating a Mobile Base System like the Canadarm 2 has on the ISS. Unfortunately SQUAD didn’t deliver on this, but do you think it would be possible with the DLC robotics and/or within the scope of one of your mini-mods?

A thread to share your thought about mobile apps/games.
RealKerbal3x replied to JERONIMO's topic in The Lounge
At this point, the only good game I have on my phone is Spaceflight Simulator. It's basically a 2D KSP-lite. -
Yeah, I’m not sure either. For many of the parts, the geometry didn’t change at all, but they still replaced the parts.
-
@kithylin All of those parts were removed because SQUAD has been going through the game and reworking the artwork on many of the parts. They essentially created a new part in many cases, instead of just applying the changes to the original, because the geometry changes in the revamped parts could potentially break craft in flight.

He lived just long enough to see the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11 - a mission that would likely not be possible without him. May he always be remembered We need a Kerbal salute emoticon.

Project Intrepid (Chapter 61 - The Sirens Of Moho)
RealKerbal3x replied to Ultimate Steve's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
@Ultimate Steve I finally got around to reading chapter 55! Was the cliffhanger really necessary? Is Intrepid still in 1.4.5? -
The Upcoming Movies (and Movie Trailers) MegaThread!
RealKerbal3x replied to StrandedonEarth's topic in The Lounge
Well...almost. The way I believe it actually goes is that Romulus is destroyed in the ‘prime’ timeline, and a chain of events lead to a ‘temporal incursion’ that creates the JJ-verse, and all of the lens-flares and explosions that happen in it So Star Trek: Picard still happens in the same universe as TNG, but I reckon it’s still going to be very different. -

Wow! 10-15 FPS with 2500 parts? NASA called, they want their supercomputer back.
