Nate Simpson has been laid off.

Hope a job comes up fast for him and everyone that lost their employment.

Good luck next time with less lies and fewer diminishing remarks towards KSP1 code, devs that worked so hard to create a dream IP of a game, KSP1 one.

So every guy or girl who is responsible for the cringe and lies messing up my Youtube or spotify streaming should loose their Job?

Don't get me wrong: I would love to crash the PR/advertising industry and every Coke sniffing "creative mind" who makes their results the intelligence-insulting  crap  they are.

But I doubt that this is possible ( even the so called socialist states had and have their Propaganda departments) and most people would agree that my peace of mind is worth destroying the jobs of everyone in the advertising/pr industry.

Don't you dare take away my dreams :D

Some of y'all in this thread are making up extreme narratives. Consider the nuances to work and life.

None of us know whether he was fired, negotiated a hefty severance payout, or ragequit a job he didn't like. We'll likely never know and that's ok. Maybe his current situation is an improvement for him or maybe it's worse. You gain nothing by gloating over his imagined misfortunes.

As for being lied to, if he told us earlier "Take2 sucks and is running KSP2 into the ground" he would have been out of a job years ago and maybe even sued by his employer. Maybe he felt like his hand were tied, maybe he's too optimistic, maybe others are more too blame, or maybe he really is as bad as you think he is.

And maybe, just maybe, the screengrab isn't legit.

Difference of values then - Whether Nate was lying to us because he was covering his own butt or willfully or naively covering for others (malicious interpretation) or lying under pressure from an employer (benevolent interpretation) the fact remains he lied to us, in pursuit of ensuring people kept paying for [Edit: Or supporting/believing in, I should add] the product. In the malicious interpretation doing so is just wrong. In the benevolent interpretation, its a case of doing bad unto others at the behest of a malicious entity, presumably to preserve what he had or dreamed.

The difference of values simply comes from whether you think that he was justified in lying to others to prevent fiscal consequences to himself from losing/leaving the job. I've made it clear which side I fall on, but sane people can disagree on this at the end of the day, and not be evil or anything for it.

So we've finally devolved into physical threats and racial epithets? Over a video game yall? Surely now that the studio has closed you can move on with your lives so we don't have to wade through this toxic waste anymore.

Can we get a gamers nexus documentary on this? Where's tech Jesus when you need him?

That is indeed a good point.. perhaps there is middle ground between the hypothetical that never was and :

"Everything is Awesome"

"We [developers] play everyday"

"Check this out we are having so much fun playing multiplayer [modded ksp1]

"We are funded to the very end"

"Community Feedback is important"

"Multiplayer remains on Road Map 2 years after people responsible for developement were fired!"

"Spaghetti rockers are in vogue and so very kerbal"

"You're not an artist, the font is fine. Trust me"

There needs to be a more organic connection between the way a game is marketed & whay is actually going on in development.. from an EA perspective.

I am grateful to all the developers. but  think the marketing side was outright BS

I can agree with this. Hopefully Nate found his career calling and starts doing PR or acting. He did a good job with that, but is it really that hard to rile up a bunch of gamers? Just a small rumor can do that.

I don't wish the man any ill will, he was just doing his job. Wish him luck for his next gig.

Too busy single handedly laying the beat down on a ten billion dollar company for bad RMA service. The fate of KSP2 might come up in passing, but its not really hardware news relevant, and "Another Early Access Title Fails" isn't worth much commentary until more concrete reports of what happened come out at best - and by the time they do, the relevancy might be weak enough that Tech Jesus doesn't give it much time. Unless someone has some nuclear hidden material on what happened, it just "mismanaged project goes over budget, has funding pulled as numbers no longer make sense". The better story honestly is Private Division as a whole possibly going, an entire publisher poofing is more his space.

He was definitely paid a good severance package. And a person with such a track record can easily find a job. Don't worry about him.
Of course, I do not know how in the USA, but in our country an employee of this level, with his salary and severance pay, can easily live for about six months with this money, there is enough money for utilities, food, and clothes.

Damn. This whole situation sucks. I just feel like so many people were given great promise to make KSP what it could be and that was in no small part due to the passion Nate, Tom, Shana, Eric, Chris, Paul, Mike, Dakota and so many others behind the scenes brought to this game. You all did incredible work and its not your fault corpo [snip] at T2 have no vision whatsoever. The art and design and plan for KSP2 was so good. I know how much that took to follow though on given the situation you were all put in. Im sad KSP2 wasn’t given the chance to flourish but worse is what that company did to yall. You are all awesome and they’re the idiots. I hope you all find good places in life and with folks who respect what beautiful things you all create.

Yes, as much as there is glee over Nate losing his job, it means a further diminishing of hopes (if there were any) that the project somehow, miraculously, would continue. And there's the kicking someone when they're down. To my knowledge Nate never drowned puppies or burned down orphanages; I think it's better to keep dark thoughts to ourselves than to spout them online without having intimate knowledge of the entire story. Unless he drowned puppies. But I don't think he did.

We have stories that portray him as the guy responsible for the mess, but to what point he actually made the (claimed) decisions or was given marching orders by upper management and tried to make the best of it, we don't know. Yes he was the smiling face that lied to us. What we still don't know was whether that was something he did happily knowing that he was just perpetrating his spiel, or agonizing on where T2 was taking his beloved game and how he had to keep up a straight face. We think we know. But do we really, for sure? I've had jobs in marketing where what we had to write didn't quite jive with what we felt. It's not fun. Getting kicked in the face afterward by customers is even less. But who's willing to say "I quit" when kids need feeding and mortgages need to be paid?

The biggest loss is indeed that KSP2 development is over. I have a hard time how anyone values "I told you was right all along" over "KSP2 eventually turned out great" and is happy about the current state of affairs.

Petition to have Elon rename the Mars/Starship program to the "Golgafrinchan Ark Ship" program. Each launch will of course happen to be designated a B ship.

He drowned kerbals and burned down kerbal space program.

Kerbals are meant to do that themselves, and he took that away from them.

Moar torches and pitchforks!

Let's not, the forums have a fairly strict no drugs references rule.   The earlier original point was made and we can leave it at that.

Actually this thread was simply to inform us that Nate was no longer employed. Do we really need it as another "I don't like the guy" thread?

Re Nate,  you may have agreed with his vision or not, but I think it's fair to say in his defense that he may not have actually known that some of the things he told us were falsehoods at the time he said them.

Well, you might've realized the only way to keep things "positive" is through iron hand moderation. Now, from all the collection of failed soviet/communist states you might also realize that telling people to shut up and be happy doesn't necessarily work.

It's not "another I don't like the guy thread", it's how people genuinely feel and there's very little but spite for the people that have potentially killed the franchise forever, and they've definitely earned it.

Not necessarily all. Socialism was relatively kind to us.
