Threads of the Month
April 2021 edition

Greetings to all our Kerbalnauts, the builders of dreams, the electronic explorers pressing to worlds unknown, and those who tinker around:

This is the third month in a row I've volunteered to do the Thread of the Month! I am really enjoying this experience of compiling the recommendations, and sorting through them. It seems that COVID-19 continues to impact most of our KSP community and with that, we are seeing a lot of new faces as lock-down boredom leads to more gaming (and snacking, of course!). And of course, more gaming means more people becoming interested in Kerbal Space Program and our ever-growing community of forum members.

So, rather than me trying to sell you on the idea that our forum is the best game forum out there (you already know this and it's why you keep coming back), it's time to look at the Threads of the Month for April 2021! We would like to begin by thanking you - the members of our forum family - who have taken the time to nominate these threads:

General community thread of the month:
This category features a thread that adds to the community and doesn't fit in the game support/game mod categories. This month, we have two threads who are recognized for this category:

For this month, we had quite a selection to choose from but eventually two stood out above all the rest. Simply because it is the first thread using alphabetical order, the fist of two threads tied for this category is one that every forum member should go share the first time they did something that make them jump out of their chair in complete jubilation! @Tsar_bomba decided to ask our forum community what were our first achievements which we still look back upon with a feeling of great pride. Maybe each of us who has yet to do this should visit the thread and share our favorite "I did this for the very first time in Kerbal Space Program" stories!

The second thread selected for this category is one that, again, each one of us could probably to at least one post in this thread. Whether it is achieving a circular orbit, interplanetary transfers, rendezvous with orbiting craft, docking, or landing an airplane on the KSC runway, we all have something that simply makes us howl every time we fail at it! But until recently, no one but @Dr. Kerbal thought to create a thread just for us to share our glorious and enraging failures! Who knows, maybe once you share that problem area of the game here, you can master it and share it as a post in the "favorite first in KSP" post!

Game Support/Game Mod of the Month:
This category features a mod which adds to the quality of life game play of Kerbal Space Program. For April, we have three mods that tied for the top honor in this category:

March really witnessed the development of a lot of good mod content for Kerbal Space Program. The first mod for this category, simply because of alphabetical order is one I am sure you will enjoy. This thread by @FruitGoose presents a collection of six mini-mods which improves game play (or quality of life, as it is also called). These mods can be downloaded separately or as one single download. In case you're wondering what these micro-mods do, you've got to go check out the thread! My summary would not do the hard work and effort by FruitGoose justice!

The second thread in this category is one many of us who do Kerbaled missions to the Outer Planets (OPM) often find our landing parties needing - the ability to carry more junk to build stuff on the surface of far away destinations. And this mod by @Isaac does just that. Although the mod is considered as a "work in progress" by the author, it already shows great potential. It increases the amount of materials a Kerbalnaut specializing in engineering can carry from the default 0.06 tons to 0.9 tons! Anyway, I am sure those of you who love building stuff while on missions will put this mod to good use.

Normally we only have - at most - two threads per category. But this month, we had a lot of good talent to select from and it was impossible to narrow it down to just two. So, the third thread in this category is a mod by @Icecovery which allows you to put a message on your craft's parachutes just like NASA did on the Perseverance rover's skycrane. This is a neat mod that brings another small detail of a real-world space programs right into Kerbal Space Program.

Fan-fiction and Kerbal Space Program-inspired creative threads of the month:
This category features a thread which while is not directly Kerbal Space Program related, may be a creative work, fan-fiction, or other presentation which is related to the game. This month we didn't have any nominations where this category applied.

Forum Game of the Month:
This category features a forum game that has brought a lot of fun and excitement to the community.

Ah, Yes, the thread we all love to hate and yet we all have a hard time NOT clicking on it anyway. There's something about human nature that we usually won't mess with something until you tell us not to do it. Well, now's your chance to ignore @NASI Director's advice and click away! Whether or not the thread is unlocked, since even the moderation team likes to tinker with this thread is anyone's guess! So, click the link below and if you're able, let your presence be known!

Honorable mentions:
Each month we get so many good nominations to choose from. Sometimes it's a challenge to choose which threads are going to receive the honor of being the Thread of the Month. But because not every thread nominated each month can be selected, there are always those that become honorable mentions. The honorable mentions for April 2021 are:

Honorable mentions for April may not have made the Thread of The Month this month, but if you think they might be worthy of another opportunity, please renominate it!

Congratulations to all the winners of the Thread of the Month for April!! We'd like to thank @Superfluous J, @DeltaDizzy, @jimmymcgoochie, @Poodmund, @Spaceman.Spiff, @Stone Blue, @VoidCosmos, @Servo, and members of the moderation team who nominated this month's contenders. Thank you so much for helping us identify noteworthy threads for this month!

If you find a thread you feel should be considered for next month's thread of the month, then use the "report comment" feature (the three dots on the upper right corner of the comment box) to report the comment. Please put in the text field of the report post "Nomination for thread of the month" and we will do the rest! You can always nominate more than one thread, too.

In case you missed March's thread of the month, you can click here.

How do we know this is real, you picked a bad day

Yes, but not a lot we can do about it. There's a section of the moderator's side of the forum where I assemble the TOTM post a day or two before the first day of the month. Once I am awake enough (this happens after three cups of coffee), I then move it over to the announcements side of the forum. If I get the honor of doing it next month, I will try something different to make sure those who nominated threads and those who have their threads featured gets pinged.

But it's a long way to May 1st. I might forget before then! :sticktongue:

I'm feeling it's impossible though. :(
I barely get any replies

Not impossible, I really liked your last vid, the timing of the images with the music was great but we do often have to make hard decisions about inclusions or the TOTM would never end.

Yes. This is the best forums. So easy to get around. And not so laggy. Very up to date.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
